This Autumn Modern Art Oxford introduces a brand new series of BASEMENT GIGS, bringing you a diverse programme of music and performance in the Basement space at the Gallery. | For more information about events at Modern Art Oxford, including artists' talks, free exhibition tours, family events, live music and film screenings, visit our website. | A fast and furious night of exhilarating jazz. The Leeds trio's lack of respect for perceived jazz rules creates a refreshingly spikey ride of virtuosic playing, interlocking and complex rhythms, masterful control and bags of attitude. trioVD have been ruffling feathers in the jazz world across the UK at all the major jazz festivals. Organised by Oxford Contemporary Music. | | Drawing on a rich and diverse cultural history of Berlin, Simon Wright and musician / composer Neil Luck from ARCO Collective present an evening of performance, music and film. Neil Luck's compositional practice focuses on various approaches to non-standard notations. Neil is a co-founder of Squib-box; an artist led cooperative dedicated to the production, recording and dissemination of contemporary avant-garde music. | | An evening with experimental psychedelic-pop quintet, Fixers, and support band Wap Wap Wow . Drawing influence from Brian Wilson and Van Dyke Parks, Fixers took shape from a collection of bedroom demos in 2006, utilising multi-tracking to construct vast layers of echo-laden harmonies. Based in Peckham and fronted by Oxford cellist and singer Rose Dagul, Wap Wap Wow are developing their own original sense of folk mixed with indie choir, string quartet, percussion, loops and pedals. Organised by Seb Thomas. | | Join us for an evening of ethereal avant pop from former Youthmovies singer Andrew Mear's new project, Pet Moon followed by new local boys Trophy Wife who describe their sound as 'ambitionless office disco'. Both of these bands have recently toured with another of Oxford's finest bands, the Foals. Come and see them perform in their home town, in the Basement at Modern Art Oxford. Organised by Seb Thomas. | | Sleeps in Oysters bring their unique brand of wind-up electro-acoustic pop back to Oxford for the launch of their long-awaited second album. This experimental duo have arrived at a vivid and idiosyncratic sound, like 'Aphex Twin making music to accompany an afternoon tea party for the Women's Institute' (Electronic Beats). This event is part of the Editions of You series, curated and programmed by Oxford Brookes University Popular Music Research Unit , Oxford Contemporary Music and Launch Collaborative. | | Don't Forget...
